Today's guilty verdict shows that no one, including a police officer, is above the law. The immediacy of the jury's conclusion indicates the evidence was overwhelming and that body cameras play a vital role in providing a truthful perspective on what occurs during police interactions.

With a unanimous decision cast, we must allow the penalty/sentencing phase to occur without violence or criminal disobedience happening in our communities.

Now is the time to work together to draft reforms that improve policing. We must replace the warrior mentality with real community-based skill sets.

In the coming weeks, I will work directly with law enforcement agencies and public safety advocates to discuss and develop such policy initiatives.
